I applied for a Super Visa extension, and I received a request from IRCC on April 16, 2025 to complete a new Immigration Medical Exam (IME) within 30 days (by May 16, 2025).

However, I already completed an IME in September 2021, which is within 5 years, and according to IRCC’s public policy (extended to October 5, 2029), applicants in Canada applying for temporary residence (including Super Visa extensions) may be exempt from a new IME if:

  • The previous IME was within 5 years,
  • The applicant currently resides in Canada,
  • The previous medical exam showed no risk to public health or safety.

Believing I qualify, I submitted multiple WebForm enquiries asking IRCC to confirm whether my 2021 IME will be accepted or if I must complete a new one. Here are the dates I sent enquiries:

  • April 16, 2025 – Initial request for confirmation of exemption
  • April 22, 2025 – Follow-up for clarification
  • May 1, 2025 – Urgent follow-up as the deadline approached
  • May 7, 2025 – Another follow-up requesting clear direction
  • May 12, 2025 – Final follow-up requesting deadline extension or updated medical exam letter

The 30-day deadline expired on May 16, 2025, but I have not received any clear response yet.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone applied for a Super Visa extension in Canada and faced a similar IME request?
  2. What should I do now since the IME deadline has passed and I’m still waiting for IRCC’s reply?
  3. Is it possible to get an extension or have IRCC accept a previous IME after the deadline?
  4. How can I effectively get a clear answer or escalate my case when WebForm replies are delayed or unclear?

Thank you for any advice or shared experiences.
