I'm unemployed and my open work permit expired.Would I be able to work?

I'm currently unemployed and my open work permit expired on Sept 2 and I applied to renew for a new one on May 8. But the processing time is taking so long these days.

I'm currently looking for a new job. if I got a job, would the employer accept my expired work permit. Also, I will show them that I already applied to renew my work permit.

please if you answer my question, please provide me with links from CIC website that support what you are saying. Thank you.

As long as you have applied for the new one, before your old expired, you are on implied status.. You can work legally.
