Hello, I have entered Canada around the end of February 2014 on a 2 years work permit in a food counter attendant specifically in Fort McMurray, I am also living with my boyfriend, I don't really like the job and I wanna aim for something more like an office job, in my current job they are cutting down our hours already which is not good, I was wondering if there is any chance for me to get an open work permit, I also have a 2 years visa stamped so I don't know if that qualifies as a temporary resident permit and if not then do I have a chance to get one because I've read that you can get an open work permit if you have a temporary resident permit for 6 months or more. I would appreciate any solution there is or any way you may know of. Thank you.

No - you don't qualify for an open work permit.

TRPs are special permits (different than TRVs) that are granted on a rare basis to people who would otherwise be inadmissible to Canada (e.g. due to a crime). You aren't a TRP holder and don't qualify for a TRP and therefore don't qualify for an open work permit on this basis.

If you want to switch employers, then your new employer will need to obtain a new and approved LMO and then you'll be able to obtain a new closed work permit.
