Hello all, I am presently filling all the documents to be able to sponsor my wife so she can be a permanent resident in Canada. I am Canadian and she is Chinese (we got married in China one year ago).

I have been living and working outside of Canada for the past 7 years and the last 3 in China. Since I got married, I have been once to Canada with my wife to visit family and friend.

I was wondering if this will be a problem, the fact that I haven't been working or residing in Canada for so long. For example they ask for an "Option C" of the last taxation year. But I haven't payed tax because I haven been in Canada for so long.

I was born in Ontario but I was a Quebec resident before I left Canada and I intend to go back there with my wife. The form IMM1344EB and IMM5481E say's "Quebec resident need not to complete this form", so I am not sure in which categories I fall in, am I a Quebec resident or not?

Thanks for your help!
Philippe

if you are planning on living in quebec upon your return to Canada, you should follow instructions for Quebec residents.

If you do not have an Option C printout for the last taxation year, you must include a note explaining why you do not have one. I too have been living outside of Canada for the last 9 years. I included my last Option-C printout (for 2001 tax year) and a note explaining that I haven't paid Canadian taxes since 2001, since I haven't lived in Canada since 2001. I also included my US tax return for the last taxation year, although that wasn't strictly necessary.
