Hi everyone,
My spouse is sponsoring me for Permanent Residency on the Family Category. (Common-Law Partner)

We are INSIDE Canada, so it will take longer than if I was outside Canada. However, that's how we decided to do it. I applied only a month ago and it might take up to 18 months to process.

I was told by friends that if I start a new application (PR) it wouldn't matter that my VISITOR visa is running out. I'd be allowed to stay on a visitor status until the new application finishes processing.

That said, I would like to ask other members if this information is correct because my visa runs out in 15 days and I don't want to be here illegally.

Thank you!

That is not true. PR process doesn't give a status.

You need to apply for an extension to your visitor status.

I can confirm, you have to request 1 year visitor visa, as reason mention application for PR.
I received ITA in express entry and applied for a visitors permit extention

Ok, good to know and good that I still have time to do it!

When I applied I also sent in a Open work permit app that they should send me back a work permit within 4 months.

That doesn't change anything right? I still have to go to cic.gc.ca and extend my visa? Does anybody have the right link to do it handy?

Thank you, you guys were very prompt.

and like I said,
I sent in an OPEN WORK APPLICATION with all required documents described here cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp

Then you will have an implied status from the date your visitor status expires until you receive a decision.

No further action is required from you at the moment.
