Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Well my question is simple:

If I study TWO diferent Graduate Certificate programs (1 year each one, and one after another), will I have acces to a work permit longer than one year?

i don't think so.......CHC r more ingenious then us!!!!!!!!!!

I guess that I am being naive then.

Well the think is that I got my student permit, and I am happy for that I am going to study a one year program.

But now I want MORE, of course and I am doing some research about wich could be my options for that.

Maybe change my course, or just simply study a 2 years program after this one, but well I will have to do some research first, I don't want to look desperate and make a mistake for that.

1. 1 + 1 = 2

Well, I read somewhere on "this forum" that its possible (that post was even linked to one website) but personally I am "NOT SURE" of it. Search on CIC Website.

All I know that one can get PGWP just once !

2. To switch to 2 year course

yes you can easily switch provided the changes made are on the same level.

I was looking for a threat with this topic in the forum but I didn't find anything.

Well this morning I am going to call CIC, and also my school.

This link makes me thing that it's not possible:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/immigrate/cec/cec-faq11.asp

I will share the response from both the school and CIC tomorrow with you, and thank you xD

In Ontario they have a Provincial Nominee Program which entitles to apply for a PR for those who have finished 1 yr masters or 1 year post graduate certificate.

I called CIC and it's not posible to study another 1 year program, to add an extra year and get a longer Post graduate work permit.

I am talking with the people in my school to see my chances to change the program for a longer one

Hello Elanie83 and thank you, but to be honest I see that nominee program of Ontario hard to achive, I preffer to get a longer work permit and have some extra time to accumulate experiencie.

I hope I can solve something with my College

1. yes, you can change your course. If its on the same level (University-to-Univerity/College-to-College) thn you do not even need to notify anyone. Yes, if you wish to switch from University-to-College/College-to-University, thn you MUST notify "Case Processing Centre, Alberta".

2. I think its better to go for 2 year course, as you are eligible for 3 year PGWP and yes, you are right in saying that Ontario PNP is a hard bet. Infact the toughest one in Canada.

I found this:

Quote from: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op12-eng.pdf - page 29

Specific eligibility criteria

• If the program of study is two years or more, the student would be eligible for a three year work permit.

• If the program of study is less than two years but at least eight months, the student would be eligible for a work permit lasting for a period equal to the duration of their studies. The validity period of the work permit must not be longer than this period. For example, if the student graduated from an eight-month certificate program, they are only eligible for a work permit of eight months' duration.

Exception: Students holding a one-year graduate degree from a provincially accredited post-secondary educational institution in Canada (pursued full-time) after having obtained, within the prior two years, a degree or diploma from an accredited post-secondary educational/training institution will qualify for a three year work permit. This exception also applies to students who have left Canada temporarily between the graduations.

I called CENTENNIAL COLLEGE and they told me that it's posible to apply for a 3 years work permit, If I study 2 post diploma programs one after another.

I will have to call CIC tomorrow, and tell them about this document, just to be 100% sure about what I am going to do

That is from 2008, but Centennial gave me a 2010 version of the document.

This is the link with the 2010 version:
