If I stop studying, do I need to change my status to visitor if I already have an ETA?

Hi,

A friend of mine stop studying 8 months ago and he still leaves and enters Canada with no problem. Shouldn't the school have reported him already by now? Or is that because he has an ETA?

Also, should he change his visa from student visa to visitor visa if he already have ETA? Is he legal in the country?

Eta is just to allow you to travel to Canada what status he gets depends on what he is doing at the border, he could be entering as visitor.
Also not sure this school reporting process actually does anything much in reality.
