Dear all,
I wrote 2 times my IELTS examination general training, I got over all 6 bands both time, I need to ask you how to write answers in listening and reading answersheet.

I wrote all answer in Capital Letters for ex. if name of doctor I wrote : PRESCOTT but as per name it would be : Prescott any problem if we wrote it in CAPITAL LETTERS all answers? I have doubt in this reading and listening sections, my exams was good never missed single question but I think it will be problem in writing for answer.
Advice needed who get 7.5 band or over on L, 6.5 or over on all.

In speaking I got 8bands and in writing I got 7bands.

Thanks buddied if you reply me.

Hi,

Writing capital letter is not going to give you a negative mark but writing answere more than the required words will give you negative mark. For e.g if they ask you to write no more than 1 word and you are more than 1 then its a zero. Words like is , of , an , etc they all are counted as a word so be careful writing an answer.

Cheers
Saki

thanks saki.
yes, I understand that, but today I am going to read Cambridge press book for IELTS and in the answersheet they wrote : Prescott (must be correct spelling
with capital “P”) , Fountain (must have capital “F”)
in example answersheet.

I am following the IELTS Cambridge university press book, self-study edition by vanessa , jakeman , clare McDowell.

Hi,

See if you are writing a name of a person, country etc where the first letter should be capital then you should write first letter capital and then rest letter you can write either capital or small but first letter should be Capital for names as we taught in english.

Cheers
Saki

If you are going the through the cambridge books they have shown how to write answers and what is the right and wrong way of writing it so just follow that.

Prashant,

Just read Cambridge IELTS material carefully. It is the best with all instructions and answers to your questions. You absolutely don't need anything else. But practice and practice and practice.

You can download (free) Cambridge IELTS material from http://www.BingeBook.com. It is not my website and I don't get paid to mention this name.

All the best!!!

Thanks all, I not paid for cambridge books too.. but I am reading its different then another one, good I will follow it of cambridge book.

Here are my inputs. Pls check if it helps :

Prashant,

As per my knowledge, any format of English is acceptable. I mean American or British. They both carry equal marks. The spelling is more important and the fill in blanks questions should follow number of words condition strictly.

I got overall band of 6.5

Listening - 7.5
Reading - 6.5
Writing - 6.0
Speaking - 5.5

Try this time writing by IDP Australia. I heard they are more liberal in giving marks than British council.

Hi Prasanth.

I got a Band 9 in IELTS and like some of the other forum members have mentioned, read the instructions carefully before you answer. If it asks you for one word, answer in one word. If it asks for 4 words or less, answer in four words or less. Names of people such as Prescott, should be capitalized, but you will not be penalized for writing in all capitals.

In listening, pay attention! Halfway through the listening session, your mind might start to wander! So be alert and listen to each question carefully.

Most importantly, follow the instructions. Eat a good breakfast, get a good night's sleep and no drinking or partying the night before!

Good luck!

Drea

Hi Prashant,

Just to answer in one line Answer field is not case sensative, No matter u write in capital or small letters... What is more important is instruction e.g - No more than one word or two words......

I answer all my questions in Capitals and score 8 in listening... no one manually check ur answer... it is being done by automated process... answers already feed in at the back end ... ur shaded answer sheet inserted in the system and it get's checked with in 5 mins.......writting in capital is beneficial cause it is easily readable....

Tip to score good marks in listening... practice a lot, listen to english songs and IELTS cambridge practice CD'S.... if you start scoring 7.5 - 8 while mock practice... then pressume u score between 7 - 7.5 in real test.... TRIED & TESTED EXPERIENCE

I have also question, the automated system may be wrong question if its not readable clearly, for an example when I wrote a bank cheque (check) and insert in ATM machine in the USA bank and that machine sometimes not read my written $ amount figure, and I entered in manually, so if our answer is correct and it will not readable by systems then? but I will sure try now to write clearly.

how about IDP australia, its aceptable by canadian authorities or they only ask fo IELTS GT.

Hello immigration 1

I did the same mistake two time during my exam . I gave all answer in capital I know i am very good in listening & reading but i got list-6.5 & read-5.5 then i got depressed after that before one day of my third attempt i visited a coaching centre where the teacher adviced me not to in capital letter & i act upon his advice & i got List-8 & read-7.5 please take care of below mentioned error

Dont give answer more then the limited word
In filling blanks ________$ has already written then only write number /for example 25 dont write 25$ as it is alrready mentioned
Use capital letter only if required like for name , city
in multiple choice answer dont answwer more then one only

thanks buddy, but liek name can I write ex. Prashant Desai or PRASHANT DESAI if req. 2 words, I am also goodin listening but I guess and mark something problem to give answer , even I not answer if needed 1word than only one word, $25 if $ is mentioned then only 25 , thats it, but something problem to read my answer by machine or system. even as told by OMM is also true if its like ATM machine systems then ATM machine ssomanytimes in the USA not read proper amount filled in bankchek, you are true OMM, will try differentthis time.
