Hello,

I am an american citizen with two degrees at Master's level from American universities and 10 years of work experience in English. I have only lived in the USA and the UK, and English is the only language that I speak. I am also a 4th generation american.
My question is: What are the chances that I may be asked to take the IELTS. If I don't, do you guys think that I will be awarded 16 points if I have my own statement + a notarised copy of my manager's reference explaining my English level?
I really don't want to have to go thru the hassle and the money of the IELTS for my own language.
I am from Pennsylvania, and funnily enough people think I sound Canadian.

no eh. You don't have to take the IELTS. Just explain that you are fourth generation american with english as your first language and its spoken at home and you used in school. Explain that you studied in english at university/college and finally all your work has been in the US or English speaking countries. That should be enough.

I don't know how much they give for English proficiency letters but I think it should be 16. Let;s wait for someone else to answer that.

No need Man. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't do IELTS. It states categorically in the OP6e.pdf that only if you mother tongue is not English, then you need to do IELTS. You will however, still need to write a letter explaining all that Rupeshhari stated above.
