I have 6.5 each in General Training module. I am looking at the official site (can't post a link, since I am not allowed to do so)

I am confused about my total marks, should I be considered in CLB Level 7 or CLB LEVEL 8, I would really appreciate if someone can tell me about my total marks, Are they

1===== 4 * 4 => 16
or
2===== 5*3 => 15 + 4 => 19

As in CLB 7 each ability holds point 4, and for CLB level 8 , each ability holds point 5.

Please let me know If I have not been clear enough in explaining my problem.

thank you.

The official details relating to language can be found at the CIC FSW website:

Language testing – Federal skilled workers

"An FSWP applicant must score at least 6.0 on the IELTS General Training test in each of the four skills to meet the minimum language threshold of CLB 7."

As you can see from the Language testing – Federal skilled workers site, a total of 6.5 for each in General Training module equates to the following CLB points:

6.5 = Speaking ===> CLB = 5
6.5 = Listening ===> CLB= 4
6.5 = Reading ====> CLB = 5
6.5 = Writing ====> CLB = 5
-------------------------------
TOTAL CLB Points = 5 + 5 + 4 + 5 = 19

To answer your specific question, you are a CLB Level 7. For you to be a CLB Level 8 you would have needed to get at least the following IELTS scores for your Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing respectively:

CLB Level 8 = 6.5, 7.5, 6.5, 6.5

Your IELTS score was: 6.5, 6.5, 6.5, 6.5

You (said you) got 6.5 for each, you needed to get at least a 7.5 for Listening in order to be CLB Level 8.

Hi Donutbox,

Based from your IELTS to CLB conversion, could you verify if my calculation below is correct:

7.0 = Speaking ===> CLB = 6
6.5 = Listening ===> CLB= 4
7.0 = Reading ====> CLB = 6
6.5 = Writing ====> CLB = 5
-------------------------------
TOTAL CLB Points = 6 + 4 + 6 + 5 = 21 (Is 21 points consider CLB 7 or 8) ??

Thanks a lot!

Your calculation is correct. CLB 7 = IELTS 6.0.
So you should have overall band at least 6.0 apart from the individual band and I think you got no problem with that.

Hi Donutbox,

Could you please advise on what the CLB level of my IELTS test score below is?

Listening:7.5
Reading: 7.5
Writing: 7.0
Speaking:6.0
___________
Overall (IELTS): 7.0

Q1: Is my score 16 OR 21 out of the maximum 24 points achievable for the first official language under the FSWP programme?
Q2: What is my CLB level as my speaking test result is quite low? Am I CLB 7 or 8?
Q3: Do I meet the minimum CLB level requirements?

Thanks in anticipation of your prompt response.

Rgds,

Hi,

I want to confirm if my score for CLB will be calculated as 16 or 21.

L=8
R=7
S=6.5
W=6
Overall IELTS Band = 7

how much points I would get for IELTS in Express Entry.

Thanks

I guess you could count as 16 only...
