My dear fellow Canada Visa people:),

Soo confused about the lottery of the working holiday visa / IEC!

SECOND time I applied for it and it keeps saying on their website my chances are very low with a sad smiley, although I've done it the second time to apply to be in the pool, also the second time I applied the next day they opened up for new applications again..

I feel it's a weird, confusing system, the lottery thing, and don't understand how someone is successful or not.

Currently I'm a little bit upset because it seems complicated and not really understandable how it all works. I'm under 35 and currently in Canada, as a German citizen:).

Thank you for any help,
Ciao:)!

It's a random draw.

Did you submit your second application under the 2017 program or under the 2018 program? If under the 2017 program, you need to apply again under the 2018.

Hey dear @scylla - nice to be in touch again.

Yeah I submitted one under the 2017 and one, I assume so (?) under the 2018, I mean I think it was the only option.
I created a new application for this. The 2017 was like: Sorry - the pool has closed etc. and this one I still have not heard anything back, but on the website it says something with low chances or so (at the moment), which I do not understand, like how can they tell people if there is still a chance or not.

At the same time there are 4500 something spots left, around 1400 spots are taken already.
:) Thanks again for reading, scylla.

Ciao for now / hope you´re having a nice Friday evening.

Looking at the current rounds of invitations page for your country the odds of getting an invite look very good and in fact have change to fair. Compare this to UK where the number of quota versus pool entrants almost match so chances are classified as low.

The low/ fair classification is not supposed to be an accurate reflection of the odds but just setting expectations. As you know it is a random draw so just get prepared as much as you can with any documentation . Make sure you keep checking for that email and keep your MYCIC access current.

Plus focus on the invitations issued and spots available not the pool number given many in the pool will not translate to invitations for various reasons.

Oh!

@Bs65 - well:
What a kind, and informative email. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for this! I understand this better now, what do you mean by:
to keep the "MYCIC access current" - to keep my CIC-account active? Or to log-in as much as possible :)?

Thanks again,
happy evening from Vancouver to wherever you are!

PS
@Bs65 -
This are the live numbers:
Spots available: 4,458
Candidates in the pool: 1,358

And only 56 actually being invited, wow.
Am I actually in the pool, one of the 1,358?
Because I have only submitted my profile for a working holiday beg. of Nov., next step is to wait to get invited.
... Just reading my CIC-message from when I applied / submitted my application - stating I am accepted to the IEC pool(s) and have to wait to get invited.

-> Also, when I left Germany end of October, I have ran to the German authorities and applied for a police certificate (for the needed documents), which I have received also end of October :).

-> Oh!
And why do they want a CV? Is it good to have a current job on the CV, or good to have quit the job (just casual job) before applying?

Thanks again,
:).

@Bs65 - NOW: My apologies!
So many / Too many mails, I just keep having more questions - so I am sorry for thread number 3 here now, after this I think I will have no more questions I hope:
- Being currently in Canada, and IF I get granted a Working Holiday (IEC) -
I have to leave the country and come back again to activate the visa, is this right :)?

THANK YOU!

If you get an IEC granted you can flagpole at the nearest Canada/US border although you will need to have travel insurance covering the full IEC duration else the permit issued will be shortened, plus you need to show access to 2500 dollars.

There are plenty threads here about flagpoling, pretty simple process where cross to US side tell them you are flagpoling, they issue an admin refusal entry to US which has no future implications, you return to the Canadian side to activate your IEC work permit. You will need to do some investigation on which borders support this given in summer some Ontario borders put time / day of week restrictions on when they would accept ‘flagpolers’.

Hey @Bs65
How are you :)?

Just finally got the invitation to apply for my IEC yay, I was thinking to leave the country once they / if they grant me the IEC visa.

Questions :)
1. -> How long from invitation to grant of the visa does it usually take? I want to apply today or tomorrow.

2. I thought of then (once I've been granted the IEC) flying to Down Under for a few weeks or months. Until I fly back into Canada to activate my IEC.
-> How long can I let the visa "sit", do I have like one year of time to theoretically stay in another country and then come back to Canada?

Thank you so very much for your help in advance.

Have a wonderful day,
Ciao for now:).

Oh PS
OFC I have forgotten something, sorry:

-> What if I get a health cover for only 6 months, not knowing how long I'm going to stay? If I stay longer I'll extend the health cover / insurance. Might that cause a problem? Because who wants to waste 6 months of insurance if leaving Canada earlier?

Thanks:)!
