IEC Working Holiday Visa-Police certificate NOT READY by deadline!

Hi everyone,

I am living in Canada and am applying under International Experience Canada - Working holiday as a German citizen.

I have already accepted the invitation to apply and in 9 days from today I must submit my application for Working Holiday permit.
I have requested a police certificate from Germany and they told me it takes 7-10 days for them to prepare it and then they will send it by post which takes maybe couple of days or more to arrive at my address in Canada. So my estimation is I will receive it in 2 weeks from now.

I am wondering which option is better now for me:
- Submit my application before the deadline and upload an explanation letter saying that I am still awaiting the German police certificate?
- or cancel my application now and re-enter the pool and wait for a new invitation to apply, in order to have enough time to receive the document and then submit my application?

For Germany there are more than 200 spots left (this many invitations will still be sent and there are around 150 people in the pool and the chance of receiving an invitation if you enter the pool is currently high).

I would appreciate if anyone shares similar experiences.

Get the certificate sent to family in Germany and have them scan it to you - you only need an electronic version to apply.

They said it takes 7-10 days to prepare the letter. So I think by asking them to send the letter to someone in Germany, I will still be too late to submit it.

Any ideas about what happens if I do not submit the police certificate by the deadline? Can I send it to them later than that? Do I get rejected because of this?

I am thinking to withdraw the application and re-enter the pool

Would the application be rejected if the police certificate is not submitted with the application?
If not, what will happen after the submission? Does this result in a big delay??
Is it better to withdraw and apply again?

when you complete the IEC application just attach a letter of explanation that the police certificate will not arrive in time and follow process below. People do this all the time especially for example if they needed an FBI one that takes weeks and weeks. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/apply.asp

You must have the police certificate ready to submit when an officer later requests it. You must provide the certificate by the deadline shown in the request letter, or your application will be refused.

Withdrawing would be a bit extreme and no guarantee even with slots still available you get back in so in my opinion this above would be most sensible approach, worst case doesn't arrive and last sentence applies but at least in meantime you are still in the process not outside waiting.

Thanks Bs65! I feel much better after reading your reply and am going to do what you explained .

Do you (or anyone else) have any idea how much delay may be added to the process then? I mean usually how long after application submission I may get the letter which gives me a deadline for the missing document? I am afraid they will get back to me (and give me the possibility of uploading the missing document) after let's say 8 weeks (which is, according to them, their normal processing time) which means the whole process will be 16 weeks then!
