Good morning,

As the title asks, my IEC visa runs on July 12th, I have lived with my fiancee for almost 18 months as of today's date. She is a Canadian citizen. We have applied under the family sponsorship category for me to remain in Canada, I have also included a Open work permit application in my application. My question is; because I have a work permit application submitted do I hold implied status in Canada, meaning I can carry on working after July 12th? Do I have to do anything? I.E apply for implied status by mail or online? or leave the county (flagpole) to the US to get my passport stamped?

Trying to find information on this is impossible, If someone could explain the process I would be very grateful.

Thank you for your time.

You will have implied status in that you can remain in Canada legally. Working is a different matter. Because IECs cannot be extended, you need to stop working as soon as your IEC expires and won't be able to start working again until the OWP is approved.

ahhh, that's a bummer! Do you happen to know typically how long they take to issue the OWP?

thanks
