IEC expiring after BOWP submitted

Hi everyone, I am currently on IEC and hold a visa-exempt passport. I applied for BOWP but it looks like my IEC will expire before BOWP is processed. My questions are:

1. What is my status after IEC expires but while waiting for the BOWP?
2. Can I still work during this time?
3. If not, do I have to quit my job or can I simply take some vacation (unpaid or paid)?
