IEC client ID the same for family class sponsorship?

Hi everyone,

I was in Canada for a year, from May 2011 to May 2012, through the Working Holiday program (International Experience Canada for Chile). For this process, I had a client ID, which is stamped in my work permit.

Should I write the same ID for my application now in the Family Class? Or are these two processes independent from each other?

I tried using it on ecas, but it didn't work (which it doesn't surprise me, since we haven't sent our papers yet). I just want to understand this part of the process.

Once you have a client ID (UCI) it is the same one forever so you can add it in to your application. UCI's are 8 digits long.

Once you have a client ID (UCI) it is the same one forever so you can add it in to your application. UCI's are 8 digits long.

Thanks for your answer, but I would like to know if this is the case even if the class (working holiday vs. family class) are totally different? I just want to make sure I won't be causing problems that might delay my process. Is there any way to make sure?

To build on my prior comments: once CIC assigns you a UCI that is your UCI for all interactions with CIC regardless of class of application or number of years that have passed since your last interaction. It is your Unique Client Identifier (aka client ID) for ever and ever. All your visas, visitor records, visas, applications, PR cards, etc will be associated with it.

The only way you can confirm whether a certain 8 digit number is your UCI is to call CIC and confirm it with one of their reps. It is usually xxxx-xxxx although I've also seen it without the hyphen. Trying to use e-case won't work unless you have an application in process with CIC (e.g., it won't work for an outland family sponsorship until shortly before your step 1 approval and it will cease working a few weeks after landing).

If you leave it blank on your application, CIC will look it up for you.

Thank you very much. I trust what you're saying; I'm not going to be surprised when I see the same number as my ID. Still, just in case, I'll leave it blank-- that's just the paranoia setting in: I'm in the middle of the stress of finally sending out the papers, and I'd rather choose the safest route.

You're welcome. BTW, you can use it to try logging in to e-case in several weeks - you may get the scoop that your application is being worked on before you officially receive the AOR or approval

On Form IMM 1344, Refering to Q 8: What is the UCI/ Client ID I need to write down? Is it the 8 digit number on top my PR Card?

It is the 8 digit ID No. on your PR card that usually shows up as xxxx-xxxx (placement depends on when your PR card was issued) and is labeled ID no.
