Identity Card Copy

My national identity card is in language other than English. But I don't have the original with me - only a photocopy. I had a certified translation of the copy made and plan to send this in with my application. Is this sufficient? Is there some chance, if they don't accept it, that it would be an additional document request as opposed to it being sent back forcing me re-start the application?

It would take some time for me to get a certified copy of the original, hence my hesitation to delay. The document checklist only indicates a copy as required...

Help!

I don't remember I ever used my ID card from my home country in my CEC application... Are you sure it's needed?

In the Document Checklist under "Identity and Civil Status Documents", you are asked to provide several documents and it says "national IDs, family/household registry/book (if applicable)".

I assume they would know, given my nationality, that this country has a national ID and would therefore expect it. Thoughts?

Yes, exactly. For example, my country issues both registry book and national ID, therefore, I provided the certified copy of it. Not all countries issue such ID.

Right. So are you saying it must be a certified copy?? Is it possible that they might request it as an additional document instead (later in the process)? To get a certified copy of the original, I'd be set back about 6 to 8 weeks possibly.

At current I have a photocopy of the original and a certified translation.

Copy with certified translation should be fine. I am from China, the system here is every translated copy must be notarized/certified by public notary in China. Sorry for the confusion.
