So I've heard from multiple people that CIC will only request a medical if the medical is passed 6 months of the intial 1 year expiry date.

(For example, you do your medical on January 2015, July 2016 comes along and they request a medical, but someone else at the same VO who also did their medical in January 2015, got their PPR in June and was not asked for a re-medical)

Is it up to the immigration officer? Is it pure luck? Is there some sort of system that happens when your medicals expire?

In my opinion. I wish we didn't do upfront medical, I feel like it was a waste of money. I should've known better seeing as that my VO has an average processing time of 11-13 months. It would've just been better to hold off the medical until they requested it.

Basically, it depends on how close the app is to being finalized when the medical expires. The VO can request that the medical be extended up to 15 months after it was intially done. If the app looks like it is going to be finalized within a few months after expiry, the VO will generally have the medical extended. If it looks like the app is going to take longer than that, they are more likely to wait and request a new medical.

I agree that trying to decipher how/why they do what they do, falls short of a Vulcan mind meld.

We had to do medical three times because CIC couldn't open the medical attachment ( finally had to courier the medical file with the help of the CIC Doctor)...if I had to do it again we would do medical upfront...if CIC wanted they could send the file back as incomplete...if you search this blog there are a few people that had the file sent back...not many but there are a few...

Lol the rumour was about how they only request medical after 6 months past the 1st year expiry. The second part was me just giving my opinion

By that, I mean that they can put in the extension request up to 15 months after the medical was done. If the medical is extended, it is generally good for another year, so 2 years after the medical was initially done.

The doctors office didn't charge us the third time cause they were helping us to figure out what the heck was going on...they called...they emailed...and they even contacted the regular customers service line...we had every one working with us but for the "medical department"..The Dr office was getting angry cause there was no response and they had done their job..
