Hi All,

I need your valuable suggestion.

I have 12 years exp and want to go to Canada through a work permit visa from India. I am getting calls from so many consultancies in India saying that they will do a work permit visa and scheduling the interviews for me. For that, they are asking money around 70K+. Is that genuine? Is that the only we have to apply for a work permit visa in Canada? Could you please suggest which is a genuine way to get the work permit visa in Canada?

Regards,
Murali

Agents cannot guarantee you either a job or a work permit even less so with the pandemic when many residents are unemployed . Not all agents but there are many agents who get involved with fake job offers after they have taken your fee and no job materialises. It is big business which suspect due to the pandemic is affecting their profit line so they will say anything.

It is virtually impossible to secure a job from outside of Canada unless someone has very unique skills so maybe focus on immigration and not a work permit.

An employer would need to sponsor a job offer with an LMIA that costs them 1000 cad plus the expense of advertising to ensure no resident were available. Also be very wary any offers that include any one of accommodation, flights or food as employers offer non of these.

Maybe look at the various immigration options.

You should assume that any job offered through an agent is a scam / fraud.

It's extremely difficult / next to impossible to secure a genuine job offer in Canada since the process the employer must go through is very long and expensive. They must also prove that no Canadian could be hired for the role. This is especially difficult to do now with COVID-19 related job losses.

If you want to move to Canada, the best option is to forget about looking for a job and focus on qualifying and applying to immigrate through an economoic immigration program like Express Entry. Again, the chances of securing a genuine job offer are extremely low.

About the only people who can reasonably think of getting a job in Canada from abroad- Senior Software devs with excellent work experience. If you have worked for Microsoft/Google/Amazon/etc in India, and you have the resume to match, you have a chance of getting a job in Canada.

For most anyone else it's close to impossible.

Paying for a job is not allowed but unfortunately some agents and business owners do it.

Errr.. I ... work for one of them... the ones you mentioned. Even with those, the usual channel of ICT is a lot mellowed down these days. New teams are not being formed, there has been redundancies at times and those folks are being moved around in roles. Actually to be perfectly honest, most of such employers these days are experimenting with remote working on a scale not seen before.

I wasn't talking about intra-company, but actually applying to a new job at a different company. If you have this kind of experience, Canadian companies are likely to consider you as a viable candidate even though you are not in Canada right now.
