I am a Canadian citizen by birth, living in China with my wife, and submitted my sponsorship application to Mississauga on 2 November. One form asked me for proof of birth, and I provided my Canadian passport. But now that I think about it carefully, I realize that I should have submitted ny birth certificate, because only a citizen by birth may sponsor a Chinese wife while living outside Canada, not a naturalized citizen.
EVen though I listed my place of birth as Ottawa, Canada, only a birth certificate proves this, not my passport.
So now what do I do? I cannot contact Mississauga, because their system does not yet show my application. Should I call them and explain the situation? Or will they email me for the birth certificate if they insist on it?
