I ended up overstaying due to some travel documentation issues that made it complicated to apply for an extension. I also had a few tough family situations and I decided to stay and help.

Long story short, I’m coming home because I got a job offer and because I have some important things to sort that I delayed due to being in Canada.

The thing is that I’m supposed to attend my baby cousin’s baptism and I’m gonna be his godmother. Also, I have to grab some stuff and then come back home again.

My previous eTA expired on January, I issued a new passport while in Canada but didn’t apply for a new eTA because I didn’t really know how the whole thing worked. I applied for a new one before leaving Canadá though, and it was approved but I still have to make it to the Canadian border. My question is, will they be able to track when I left and deny me entrance due to overstaying? What should I do when I get to the border? Be honest about my previous situation or just let them know what brings me to Canada his time?

Yes - always be honest at the border.

It's possible you may run into issues entering Canada because of the overstay and it's possible you may not. We can tell you since this is entirely up to the CBSA officer you speak to at the border.

Recommend you bring evidence with you that shows you have now established ties to your home country and won't overstay again (e.g. proof of employment, proof of property ownership/rental, etc.).

Also recommend you keep this trip quite short and make sure you have a return ticket.
