Hi guys,

I am 21 years old male. I am accepted to Canada. I will be a full time student for 2 years. I am looking for options for where to stay. My family will be paying the rent and they can pay up to 900 CAD per month. If I was 18 years old I would choose college's residence to meet new people, party, have fun etc. But I have no desire for that. I want to fully focus on my studies and make best of my school during my time in Canada. I also think that school residence's have loud noise because of the other students(partying, drunk, playing games etc.) I want to stay somewhere quiet. Because of these reasons I skip on campus accommodation.

On kijiji.com website between 500-700 CAD range there are room rents in a shared house. Houses are very good and upscale looking however I do not want to share kitchen with another 4 people. Also because I do not know the people in the house I could feel insecure. This option is also not looking good for me. It would be great if I share the house with someone I know. But it will be my first time in Canada. Maybe it can happen on the second year after I meet new friends.

The other option is the expensive option. I could stay in the hotel for 3-4 days after my arrival and look for place (basement, bachelor, 1bdr) to rent but I will have to open a bank account first and transfer the money to my new account, which could take 3 days. It would be nice if I find a place quickly but if not I would have go over my budget and spend extra. I am already being a financial pressure for my family and I don't want to make it worse for them.

The last option is homestay program. I know that mostly high school students choose this option but it is tempting for me because of its moderate price. I will cook my own meals. I will need a quiet place to stay. I do not need to buy furniture etc. in a rush just after my arrival. Homestay fulfills these expectations for me. I will have option to call agency and change the place if I don't get by with the family. Do you think it would be weird a 21 years old guy stays in a homestay program? If I choose this option I will stay with a family for 2-3 months until I know the Canada, procedures, laws very well. After that I can look for a place like I said on the third option.

What are you guys thinking about this? I would love to hear your opinions, advices and experiences about this issue.

Thank you for reading.
