I need some help for my study permit and wife’s spousal open work permit.

Hi, guys! I’d like to get information on processing time of study permit and spousal open work permit after application. You know, I applied these permits as soon as I arrived in Vancouver last April. As my wife held her own study permit and was studying then, I was elligible to apply my study permit within Canada and successfully I finished my application.
However, so far, I’ve received no further progress on my application. I sent two enquiries through webform and received only formal feedback. It’s been around 4 months for me to wait. They said they’ll process my visa as soon as possible though, I really don’t understand why my visa process is still stuck at the status of “read.”.
HERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS
1. I applied my study permit and my wife’s spousal open work permit at the same time. Both of those two applications were made under my account. According to the processing time service, it normally takes 2 weeks for study permit submitted within canada and 136 days would take for my wife’s spousal open work permit when I applied her SOWP under my name. In this case, how long would it take normally?

2.Today is July, 23rd and I registered the program which will begin in September,2022. in last April. Can I get my study permit before it begins?

3. My wife’s study permit will expire around mid-August, this year. Would my wife’s current effective study permit make an impact on her SOWP?

1. Why isn’t your wife applying for a PGWP as she is on a study permit now? so the two of you entered Canada with her on a study permit and you with a SOWP? Or what is your status?
2. No one can tell you if you will get your study permit in time. Processing times are averages.
3. Why isn’t she applying for a PGWP?

No one here can tell you if your study permit will be approved in time. You'll just have to wait and hope for the best. When did you apply? Based on what we are seeing on this forum it's taking several months to be approved.

8 month programs qualify for a PGWP as long as the school and program qualify

I'm not sure it's going to be possible for your wife to get an open work permit approved due to the principal foreigner national rule. You should be prepared for the possibility her application may be refused.

Sorry, just realized you said you applied in April. The processing times you are experiencing are normal. Nothing you can do but wait and hope you are approved in time. As said above, it is possible your wife's work permit could be an issue.

Hi Naturgrl. My wife is inelligible to apply for her PGWP as her program is only 8-month program.

So she is not eligible for a SOWP based on changes to IRCC policy to stop spouses from flip flopping between study permit and SOWP. She is considered the Principal Foreign National (PFN) as she is who first applied for temporary status in Canada on a study permit. She may get lucky and be approved but a refusal is highly possible.

IRCC closed the loophole that you are trying to do for the study permit holder (your wife) and PFN to flip flop and apply for a SOWP. She should have applied to a program that provided a PGWP.
