Me and my boyfriend have been in a long distance relationship for 9 years now and we are really ready to settle down together but as you can imagine is very stressful and we arn't sure how to go about it.

We have a great relationship, visit each other often and are ready to get Married.

He is in American Citizen. He currently works for Fed-ex but just graduated college with a Criminal Justice degree.
I would like some advice on the "easiest" way for him to come to Canada permanently, however, I have enough in savings to support the both of us for a couple months, but how long after he arrives in Canada does it take to allow him to work? Also, is it possible for him to reside in Canada with me, but work in the USA as we live very close to the American border?

Some advice and insight would be wonderful. We want to do this right and have everything go as smoothly as possible with such a big move.

You would be better off posting your questions to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum. To answer a few of your questions:

- You will need to be married or common law before you can sponsor him. Common law means you have lived together continuously for at least one full year.
- Best (fastest) option is to sponsor him using the outland method.
- He will be allowed to work in Canada once his PR application is approved and he has "landed" in Canada and officially become a permanent resident.
- He can visit you while the outland application is in progress but cannot move to Canada or live here.
- It's unlikely he will be able to stay in Canada with you as a visitor and commute each day to the US to work. CBSA officers will likely see this as attempting to live in Canada without authorization and sooner or later he'll likely have issues re-entering Canada.

OH I didnt mean illegally living in Canada and working in the states but if its possible for us to get married, him reside in Canada with the proper paperwork for residency of course but as he waits for the clear to work in Canada, have him work in America?

Also I'll move this thread there, thankyou !

He can't officially live in Canada until he is a permanent resident (that's the paperwork required). He will be able to work in Canada as soon as he's a permanent resident. Until he is a PR, all he can do is visit.
