Hi, I have a question. Recently I received confirmation of PR and also the single entry visa for immigrants. But I am not ready to land yet. In this Xmas season I am hoping to travel to Canada for just 2 weeks. During this time I don't want to be registered as a landed immigrant because I have to return back to my home country right away in 2 weeks. I am hoping to make the final move in the spring of next year. So I am wondering if I can come to Canada using my Tourist Visa, since that's still valid and has multiple entries. I am worried that the border office may stop me and insist on registering me as a landed immigrant -- in which case I will be forced to stay in Canada in the next 3 months in order to get the PR card. Please help and let me know if I am allowed to use Tourist Visa. thanx much

The border services officer may oblige, but you must be prepared to do landing formalities there is the officer doesn't oblige. Even if you activate your PR you don't need to stay in Canada 3 months for a PR card. You can have it mailed to a friend's address and s/he can post it to you. Alternatively you can tell the officer that you don't have a Canadian address so to hold on the PR card application, then once in your home country apply for a PRTD to go back to Canada.
