My partner is going to sponsor me through common-law.
I arrived in Canada in late Oct last year, and we lived together at her parents house until we moved into our own place in March 18. We can get a tenancy agreement drawn up from her parents to account for the 4 or so months we lived there.

Problem is, our new place has an initial six month lease, which we both signed. After the six months is up, it automatically goes to a month-by-month basis, unless you want to renew another six month. I didn't do this when the time came around (end of Aug) because initially I was going to apply for PR via Express Entry, but I've changed my mind.

I contacted the property management company, and they said they'd happily back-date a new six month lease, showing uninterrupted cohabitation, but they said that the date we signed will be today's. Will this be a problem in the eyes of the visa office?

Also, for social assistance, I realize that no-one here might know this, but my gf is unemployed due to mental illness. She gets a cheque every 3 months for $90 - does this sound like welfare? Or just EI?
I plan on asking her and her dad about it tonight, I just figured I'd ask here too.

Hmmm, I wonder if the cheque every 3 months might be GST benefit. It is not social assistance/welfare.

Oh, like a tax credit? Actually...come to think of it, I haven't seen her get a cheque in a while - does this sort of thing stop after a while?

It usually depends on the income tax return filed for the previous year. The last payment was in July, the next one is this Friday.

Ah, I see, thank you.
Do you have any thoughts on the rest of the post?
