I had applied for a work permit, then I applied visitor status before it expired. Now, I'm staying in Canada as implied visitor status. But I still haven't received any update of it. Maybe they are busy because of COVID. Also, I wrote I would like to stay in Canada until Nov 15th. But I had changed the schedule for some reasons, and I want to stay more than the date. Do you think I am able to stay more than the date? like until I get the result of it from CIC?

You can remain in Canada as a visitor until there is a decision in your application.

Question: does anyone know if visitors on implied status waiting for extension can apply for a work permit?

I've heard my friend did it, but he is living in Quebec. I'm not sure it works with BC's work permit. Maybe, depends on the type of the work permit? I recommend you to ask your employer

Yes you can apply if your employer has positive LMIA. If your extension gets denied the WP application does not give you implied status.

Aw that's great news. Yeah I can take the risk since it's taking so long. Thank you so much

Finding an employer wanting to apply for an LMIA and applying for a WP is a very difficult and long process with no guarantees. If your extension is denied you will be out of status in Canada which has longterm implications if you don't leave and overstay. A WP can continue to be processed abroad.

I see. Thank you for the clarification. I hope to get my extension since my flight has been cancelled since May and no news yet. Thank you

You usually need to contact the airline to rebook your travel or book with another carrier. Having a flight cancelled and the airline not contacting you to rebook isn't enough. If you are unable to secure a flight home that would be different. yes you will have to wait an see but the pandemic will continue for a while so at a certain point you will be asked to return home if flights are available.
