Hey everyone,

I applied for PR in September 2012 after working for one year, and today I got laid off (6 months after applying).

Should I contact the CIC to tell them about my situation? I asked HR to provide me with a letter stating I've been employed with them up until yesterday. Should I send them that?

Thank you

Should be no problem in case you gained your 1 year experience on a valid work permit.

I wouldnt. Look for another job and once you do, you can send an updated employment letter.

First, sorry to the OP for getting laid off.

He don't need to send anything. The application is based on the experience that you submitted at the time of your application (i.e. your old job). You do not have to be in that job currently (or even in Canada) to apply, once it was earned in the past 3 years prior to applying.

Hi OP, Sorry to hear about your job situation. Keep looking you will get something.

Regarding CEC application. Just like Seton mentioned - you absolutely have no need to inform CIC about this update. Your CEC application is based on your experience up to the date you send the application. If you fulfilled all those criteria at the time of application then you are good.

And if your WP is about to expire (within next 4 months) you can quickly apply Bridging Open Work Permit. I'm assuming you have already got an AOR for your CEC application.

All the best.

Thank you everyone. Glad to hear I don't have to share such information with CIC. My WP expires in August 2014, so plenty of time...I'm hoping PR will go through by September/October 2013 (AOR rec'd last October).

I just sent in my application for EI. I hope it will go smoothly. I also get 4 weeks severance (and hopefully vacation time cashed). Fingers crossed...things will get better.
