Definitely read the text, then do those quick online practice tests until you get say 20/20 3 times in a row, checking sections in the text for questions you got wrong . That worked for me, however I have the huge advantage of having English as my first language, I can see how the condensed historical information would be very difficult for me if I had to do it in French for example, let alone Mandarin or something.
