Hi guys

I am from India and I do not have a birth certificate.

What document do I need to send to confirm my date of birth?

Do I also need to include any covering letter, explaining why I dont have birth certificate?

Submit SSLC (10th) Certificate with your DOB and Parents names or Affidavite from your Parents.

I have class 10th certificate with my DOB and only father name. Will that be fine??

Do I need to include any Covering letter?

Yes. With one parent name is ok. Attach a covering letter. I have submitted my SSLC certificate with DOB and parent name, it was accepted by CIC.

What should i write in the covering letter. Basically i just never had a birth certificate.

Can this covering letter be hand written or has to be typed?

Hand written should be ok. Just say that you have submitted SSLC certificate with DOB and parent name since you don't have birth certificate.

Please note that I also do not have a BC

1. Secondary certificate with name of one of the parents is perfectly fine
2. Additionally, you may submit an affidavit as well ( I did it)
3. You may type the cover letter, but sign it with pen
4. I mentioned in the letter that I was born in a village and hence, could not get BC. Also, I read somewhere that those born before 1989 in India were not issued BC.

Did this work for you?

Do you have the format of the affidavit .. Does the affidavit need to be on a stamp paper? and if yes what denomination?

You can submit 10th marksheet and leaving certificate, CIC will consider that. When I apply for PR , my apllication returned, because of missing birth certificate. I attached affidavit based on passport from Indian embassy. They sent me a letter stating that they will accept leaving certificate and 10th marksheet as proof of birth.

Yes man it did work for me. I submitted the copy of secondary school certificate (class Xth CBSE) that had my father's name. Besides, I also submitted the affidavit in 20 Rs. Stamp paper only. You may go to any registered notary ( usually you can find them outside courts) and he will have the format. Ask them you want to submit an affidavit for DoB/place of birth.
If you are not able to get the format, please PM me I will need to type the whole document.
And also please add the cover letter.

Vivek i do not have leaving certificate. Is that going to be a problem?? Also can you kindly send me the format for the affidavit. Many Thanks

I didn't have a birth certificate so I submitted higher school (matric) certificate and provided the explanation in a cover letter to London visa office. no objections raised and my application was approved.
