I've been in Canada since 2009 as a "dependent" of my father who works as a Clergy (pastor) his visa says that he can only do religious work. I am now in my early 20s but haven't been able to go to work legally or go to school (college/ uni).

Right now I'm in Canada and my visa says I am a Visitor and a remark on the visa that says "Temporary Resident Status", "Accompanying father on visitor record valid to same date" According to the new regulations I am no longer his dependent because I'm past that age but in reality I cant be independent since I cant do ANYTHING. I want to go to school and get a job, I want to build my future but I can't.
Am I just here as a visitor? I want to stay here in Canada but I cant do anything here.

I have applied MANY TIMES and to no avail. I've applied to change my status to working visa (with/ without offer of employment) but it was denied both times. I applied for a study permit 2 years ago? but same thing. A few months back I applied for Permanent Residency but it was also denied. The way I understood it is if I've stayed in Canada for a while I could get it, but i guess not.

Am I really not allowed to study or work while im here? It just doesn't make sense. I'm getting frustrated to the point I want to give up and move back to my homeland but there's no future there for me. I guess its the same here anyway

I was accepted in a DLI community college and about to apply for another Study permit next week. I'm not getting my hopes up too much because it just feels so heavy.

If anyone has tips or anything at all, I'd appreciate it. Sorry for my rant/ sob story.

My advice would be to go to your local MP. Your situation is really sad. If you did you high school here you should be able to further your education and apply for permanent residence. Good luck.

You need to spend more time familiarizing yourself with Canada's immigration rules. Feeling sorry for yourself is unfortunately the wrong approach. You need to educate yourself about the process so that you can avoid further mistakes. There's no point going to your MP.

You don't qualify for PR just by living in Canada. You were correctly refused.

You were also correctly refused when you applied for a work permits. To qualify for a work permit you first needed to secure a full time job offer from an employer in Canada AND that employer had to obtain an approved LMIA. An offer of employment isn't enough - you also needed an approved LMIA.

You should be approved for the study permit provided you have been accepted by a DLI for a full time program that is greater than 6 months in length, provided you demonstrated that you have the funds to pay for this education, and provided you are still in status in Canada.

Good luck.

Thanks for the the replies. Im usually a positive person but this thing has been a hassle.

I am approved at a DLI and have the funds to sustain me. My biggest concern is where to send the application to. Last time I sent a study visa app I was told that I should submit it at a Canadian visa office outside Canada.

Can I send it to their LA/ NY office or do i have to send it to Philippines (home land)? Thanks

You can send your application to LA/NY. You do not qualify to have your study permit processed within Canada.
