Hi Everyone,

I really need your help here because i don't know what to do.I'm scheduled for an interview for my permanent residency(Family class sponsorship) NEXT WEEK on january 9th at the Buffalo visa office(Usa).i live in chicago and i'm an international student here.Unfortunately i might not be able to attend the interview because i do not have my passeport with me.In fact my passeport was expired and i've sent it to my home country to be renewed. My passeport is on its way back but it might not be here before the interview. What should i do? I know it's not a good idea to wait for my passeport but at the same time i really don't want to miss the interview. Please a little help!!!!!

Try to contact visa office and explain your situation. Maybe they can reschedule your interview for a later date. Did they asked you to confirm your attendance?

I don't know what the protocol is in this situation, but I would say definitely try to contact them and let them know the situation. If you can't directly speak with a higher up person that works in the embassy to get confirmation of what you should do then I would definitely say GO to the interview. Bring whatever other ID you have. If you miss your interview without speaking with someone and getting direct confirmation that your interview has been scheduled for a later date you could be in big trouble. Not showing up for an interview, I would imagine, would make them think it's not important to you and therefore they could deny the visa based on the fact that you no longer want it (since you didn't show up). Try your hardest to contact them, but if u can't get ahold of a person in charge go to the interview... Hopefully they will let you in with a few other idenifications if your passport is not available to you.... Maybe you could also bring an older photocopy of your old passport (if u have one)? Do u have a receipt or whatever that you have paid to have your passport renewed?

Why not attend the interview without your passport? If you are approved, tell them you will submit your passport when it arrives.

Agreed. Attend the interview whether you have your passport or not. If you can change the interview date, it's better but if not then definitely don't miss the interview.

Thanks everyone for your quick responses, the thing is i've already confirmed that i would attend the interview thinking that my passeport would get here in time.My passeport is the only Id i have with me here i don't have any state Id,thus i can't take the plane.I was thinking of taking the train but i still need a valid id for that i'm not sure if they'll let me trhough with copies of my passeport.

Do u have a drivers license (even if from your home country), a student card? You must have some other form of id. Birth certificate? Perhaps if you have your birth certificate and then another form of photo id (drivers, student card) it will be enough to let u through. And also bring the photo copies of your passport.

I do have my birth certificate and a driver's license from my home country and a student Id card.Plus photocopies of my passeport.if it's really enough to let me through at the airport i think that would be awesome.

Well, you're in the US now? I'm pretty sure you don't need a passport to fly within the country, but definitely double check that as I could be wrong. I know in the past when I've flown within Canada a passport wasn't necessary, but that was years ago so things may have changed and of course it could be different in the US. I would think that a birth certificate and photo id plus the photocopy of your passport and maybe receipts for the passport renewal and even the receipt for paying the PR application could be enough to get you on the plane and through the embassy... but please don't take my thoughts on this as truth. Call the airlines, call the embassy. Get ahold of whoever u can before hand to make sure that this is enough. I'd start with the airlines... ask if birth certificate and photo id is enough to let u on the plane since ur not an American citizen or PR.... GOOD LUCK! Please let us know what they all say.

Thank you very much everyone and thanks Tink23,i will call the airline company and ask if i can travel with my birth certificate and a photo id,i will try my best to attend this interview. Thanks again for your advices.

Good luck, Arion.

When did you receive a letter from Buffalo requesting an interview?

Yes, you can travell with your drivers license and birth cert on a "domestic flt".
Even a credit card with the birth certificate or driver license will do.

oh thanks gemaurau, does anyone know visa office number? i've tried to get ahold of them today but i couldn't.

Just a quick question: when did Buffalo send you a letter that interview was required?
