Hi Seniors, I hope you can help me and my wife...

I applied to CIO on 1st week of June as a single, then married my long-term gf in September. I received my 1st AOR on 2st week of October. I will include my wife in the application. We will soon submit our documents to visa office but I still have the following questions...

1. My wife has a cousin in Canada, she's been working there for 2-3 yrs already. My wife also has another relative in Canada - the wife of her uncle. Her uncle will join his wife there this year. Question is, can I declare my wife's cousin and uncle's wife under the item Proof of relationship in Canada?

2. I plan to sponsor my parents and my younger sister in the future. Should I include them under the item Non-accompanying family members declaration? Follow-up question, are they counted when I compute for proof of funds required?

3. I only have paid for my own application to CIO. Since I am including my wife in the application, where should I pay the initial fee of CAD550 for my wife? to CIO or Canada Embassy?

regards,
Raph

1. You don't get any adaptability points for cousins or wife of uncle. If her uncle himself is a PR or citizen and is living in Canada, you may claim points for him.
You may also claim adaptability points for your wife's education.
However, more points will not get you processed faster. If you had enough points applying as a single, I assume you still have enough points.

2. The non-accompanying / accompanying family information is only for your spouse and dependent children. Your parents and siblings can not be listed there. They should be listed on the additional family information form. You will not need funds for them but once you are settled in Canada, you will have to show that you have enough income to sponsor them. If your wife also works, she can co-sign your sponsorship of your parents and sister and so you can count both your incomes.

Be advised that if your sister is under 22 when you apply for your parents sponsorship, you can sponsor her too as their dependent child but she can not get married before she gets her PR which may take a few years since sponsorship of parents is not considered a priority. If she is older than 22 when you apply, she can only be sponsored as a dependent child if she is a full time student since before the age of 22 and continues to be a full time student until she gets her PR. If she is already over 22 and not a student, your only chance to sponsor you would be to move to a province where the provincial nominee program has family stream (SK or MB) and sponsor her through that.

3. If your file is still with CIO, you can pay to CIO. If the AOR advised you that your file has left CIO and is now at the visa office, you pay to the visa office.

Leon, a thousand thank you!

You answered all my questions and even added some important insights about sponsoring parents.

God bless you more!
