Hi

I am currently living in Canada with my wife, she is holding an open work permit and living as my dependent. I applied for my PR in Nov, 2019 and currently holding a valid employer specific WP valid until Feb, 2022. I want to get an open work permit. Based on my situation, can I go for an open work permit? Will this be a bridging work permit?

Thanks
Umer

I assume you applied under Express Entry?

Unfortunately you do not qualify for a Bridging Open Work Permit at this time. You will need to wait until you have less than four months remaining on your current work permit. So this means you will qualify to apply sometime in October.

How did you apply for PR? Did you apply through FSW/Express Entry? Or CEC?

You need to answer that question first.

In that case your only option is to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit.

However as I said before, you can only apply for a BOWP once your closed work permit is within four months of expiring.

why i cannot apply for open work permit? BOWP is risky.

Because you don't qualify for an OWP. They are only granted in very specific circumstances.
