Hi all,

I wanted to take my husband's last name and change my last name as well. maybe it is better to wait until appeal hearing and successfully win the appeal then I can change my last name to my husband's last name.

I don't want any type of confusion if I change my last name and cause confusion to Immigration, etc.

any of you guys went through like this before?

the reason I want to take my husband's last name because I love him very much. I want to show this to the appeal hearing that my husband and I are very genuine and I want to have his last name.

So sorry to know about refusal......Yes it is a good idea to get your last name change. It will be a weight on your appeal to prove a genuine relationship between you two.

Good Luck

yes but it will cause confusion if I change it now if I have a documentation with my current last name. I am in my husband's country for a year. I can change all this online and mail it to Saskatchewan, a marriage certificate provided.

but maybe its good idea to wait if I successfully win the appeal case and my husband get the visa, once he's with me in Canada and I change my last name to his.

I'd wait. They are more worried about how your husband feels about the relationship, not how you feel about it. They will almost certainly find that you genuinely love him, even if you haven't changed your name. At the appeal, if they ask, you could tell them you plan to change your name after winning the appeal, because you didn't want any confusion before and during the appeal.

I concur. It's easier to Mr. Smith and Miss Brown apart versus Mr. & Mrs. Smith. While I don't think it would have a major impact, it shows consideration to the VO and court. It might give you a brownie point :)

I also agree- the issue in question is your husband's feeling and intent.

I would also recommend you strongly consider hiring an interpreter (independent and certified) for your husband if English/French isn't his first language. That way there's no possibility of confusion and its a third party, so there is no bias.

yes, we decided to wait on my last name change so we don't want to complicate it. it would be much easier when my husband and I both in Canada together so I can change it easily.

my husband and I converse in English all the time. Interpreter for my husband is not necessary since his English skills is excellent. for me, a Interpreter is necessary, I use American Sign Language so I can explain everything in details at the Appeal, so I already requested a interpreter so it will be provided at the Appeal.
My husband wanted me to have his last name, I wanted that too. we decided not to change it now until I win the appeal. my husband and I finally together in Canada so I can change it easily.
