I already received my Visa the same day I have updated my personal information thru e-mail by adding a family member, my common-law partner. Will the information update still take effect or it will no longer be valid since the Visa has already been issued?

You will probably have to return your Visa and COPR to have them cancelled and reissued. The visa office will give you instructions. You can't become a permanent resident until this issue is sorted out.

Your common-law partner will need to have a medical examination and background checks before they reissue. It could be a while.
You have not provided very much information about your circumstances... What immigration class are you applying under? What is your timeline?

I applied for a temporary work permit for live-in caregiver program.
here's my timeline;
october 2012 - passed application
august 2013 - took the speak test
january 2014 - received MR
february 17, 2014 - submit MR, Passport & Related Docs.
february 28, 2014 - approved application(sent via e-mail)
March 04, 2014 - received the Passport/Visa, IOM blue booklet, and my Orig. Credentials Docs.

But it is only to update my information so I could petition her later. Does she still need to undergo the medical examination?

This is why it's important to provide full information with your question.
I don't know if she will require a medical or checks as you are not applying for PR at this time.
In fact, you posted your question in the "Family Class Sponsorship" for PR section of the Forum...
You probably should have posted it in the "Foreign Workers" section instead.

If your common-law partner will be coming Canada for 6 months or more, he/she will have to undergo medical exams. Also, because your job requires interaction with the public(possibly young children or elderly people) and your spouse will be living with you, they will be asked to also do medicals.
