Hi,

My wife got a Canadian PR card in 2015. We got married this year. She is currently staying in Pakistan with me but we would like to move to Canada. What are the ways in which I can also get the PR status. Can she sponsor me? She is not working at the moment. I have my business in Pakistan and adequate funds to support ourselves.

Regards

As a PR, she must be physically living in Canada to submit a PR app for you, and remain living in Canada for duration of the processing.

If you can get a TRV approved, you can come to Canada as a visitor during the process.

If you can't get a TRV approved, you must remain in Pakistan while she lives in Canada for duration of processing. She could leave to visit you for short/temporary vacations only while PR is processing.

I assume you mean by her receiving PR in 2015 that she was sponsored no earlier than 2014? Your wife has to be sponsored a minimum of 5 years before she can sponsor anyone.

Only if she was sponsored as a spouse under a family class application.

If she got PR any other way like through an economic stream or as a dependent in an application, that rule does not apply.

Interesting, I didn't know a dependent can sponsor right way. Thanks!
