hi guys! i wanted to ask your opinions on something.

my husband is flying from trivandrum india to edmonton today. when he went to check in he had a small carry on, a small backpack and a camera bag. the checkin in trivandrum said he could only have two so he gave the small carry on to be checked in. in that carry on though was a file of documents. He made sure he took out the COPR, 2 copies of accompanying goods. Everything else like marriage certificate, birth certificate and his certificates were put in that small carry on and checked in. when i found out he was already at the gate! i gave him heck for sending that file of documents in case he needs anything at immigrations. his first port of entry is montreal. will he be in a tough spot if he doesn't have documents like marriage certificate, birth certificate and all? the essential documents he has just other documents he doesn't.

also he was told since his final destination is edmonton that he will collect his baggage there. but i was under the assumption at immigrations in montreal they may want to look into his luggage. so wouldn't he have to collect it in montreal?

any opinions please??

All he needs is his passport and COPR w/visa, but couldn't he just land in Edmonton?

His landing will occur at his first point of entry ( I doubt his flight from overseas will land in Edmonton first). All he will need is the COPR and his passport to land. If he needs more, he will likely have his luggage as he will have to clear customs at the first point of entry anyway, including his luggage.

Don't worry, he will pass through with a passport and copr.

thank you for your replies!! i wish he could have flew directly to edmonton but currently the only flight that comes in from an international country directly to edmonton is KLM through amsterdam. that was not the cheapest flight so we didnt end up going with that.

i am such a worry wart! feel like if i travelled with him i wouldn't worry as much about stuff!

Usually you go through immigration first, before picking up all your luggage. So I wouldn't count on anything in the luggage being available for use at immigration.

Didn't say that you didn't clear immigration first.......but you do get to pick up your bags before or when you go to secondary if necessary. They clear your luggage at the first point of entry.
