IMO they will get preferential treatment - they don't have what it takes to qualify on their own. Too old, not enough education, not enough / the right work experience, etc. I don't think they should be given preferential treatment - however I don't see how else they can live in Canada without being given some sort of break / exception. They have an exceptionally easy life compared to the average person and I will find it sad if they are granted an exception over someone who is in real need.

Agreed. The minister will issue instructions and a TRP or other document will be issued to them.

I know they will, but I'm hoping they don't.

It'll look REALLY bad for the immigration system to show preferential treatment for, imo, 'celebrities' while thousands of people, who are more qualified, educated and voluntarily want to move to better their lives and help with the economy of the country.

A quick google search shows that Harry barely managed to pass his schooling ... 'achieving a grade B in art and D in geography'... really?

Isn't there some "investor" visa that can lead to a PR? All you have to do is spend x amount of dollars to start some business and hire y number of people? He has the money for sure. If not, I'm sure his dad and grandma would help him out.

Just to mention that Meghan lived and worked in Toronto as I undestand on and off for 8 or so years so assume she had some sort of status other than just being a US citizen. They will possibly, speculating, get around Harry being in Canada through having some sort of diplomatic status passport.

Unlike most of us money and status talks so am sure they are not too worried about a minor detail whether they qualify for EE or CEC.

Bigger concern still will be who pays for their security.

Can visualise now first words Archie says to Great Grandma in a Canadian accent , eh.

Likely a work visa sponsored by her employer (who was producing the show she was on). I assume that visa is gone now.

Hi there,

IRPA's first 2 stated objectives:
  • (a) to permit Canada to pursue the maximum social, cultural and economic benefits of immigration;

  • (b) to enrich and strengthen the social and cultural fabric of Canadian society, while respecting the federal, bilingual and multicultural character of Canada
s25(1) gives the Minister all the authority required to grant anyone permanent residence status.

It should be pretty easy to meld these stated objectives into a highly defensible decision to welcome the Queen's grandson, his wife and great grandson into Canada. They have wealth, influence and a laundry list of good deeds done.

Not everyone in Canada holds the British Crown out as a culturally significant aspect of the country but plenty of Canadians do, and Canada's laws, institutions and traditions are awash with it, including IRPA that came into being only after receiving Royal assent.
