Hello Friends,

I and my wife both ,have Permanent Resident of Canada. We did landing on March 2018 and came back to US and had blessed by a baby girl in US and she got her birth certificate and passport.

Now we are planning to move permanently to Canada ASAP. Could guys suggest what would be the process to sponsor our baby while we are in Canada.

1. Sponsorship would be In-land or out-land ?
2. How much time does it take to complete the process end to end for US born baby?
3. What is the detailed out lined process to follow, the FORMS and Steps.

We are badly seeking these informations, would really appreciate your response.

Thanks in Advance,

Dear mkoushik0730,
Congratulations and best of luck with parenting.

You can sponsor your spouse, partner or dependent child if:

1. Who can sponsor (source: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/family-sponsorship/spouse-partner-children/eligibility.html)

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
    • If you’re a Canadian citizen living outside Canada, you must show that you plan to live in Canada when the persons you want to sponsor become permanent residents.
    • You can’t sponsor someone if you’re a permanent resident living outside Canada.
  • You’re able to prove that you’re not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability
  • you can provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor.
Sponsorship would be In-land or out-land ?
It has to be inland as you can read above it clearly states in bold (
You can’t sponsor someone if you’re a permanent resident living outside Canada.)

2. How much time does it take to complete the process end to end for US born baby?
Under normal circumstances, it takes around 1year. try this link https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html

3. What is the detailed out lined process to follow, the FORMS and Steps.
Follow this link for applications package

The good news is that you do not have to qualify for minimum income criteria.
(A sponsor does not have to meet MNI if they are sponsoring their spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent child or a person under the age of 18 whom the sponsor intends to adopt in Canada [R133(4)].

Best of luck for starting your new Canadian Life and Welcome to CANADA.

Your child can enter as a visitor if she is a US citizen and then you can sponsor her if you are compliant with your RO. You'll need to purchase health insurance for emergencies until she qualifies for provincial health insurance.
