Hello,
I am in a bit of crisis,
My husband and i applied for his spouse visa in january 2013, and since then the embassies were on strike for a long period of time. Im assuming it has affected a lot of us, who are desperately waiting for our loved ones to join us here in Canada. As we were waiting i went back home to Serbia from April to July, anddd got pregnant :D
Just few days after we found out the great news, we also find out they are on strike. :'(
The processing times before the strike for Serbia was 10 mnts, after the strike it kept getting longer processing times. Now its at 13 mnts, and my due date is right at 13 months....im kind of loosing it, and have no idea what to do. We were told to apply for visitor visa, and we did, but got refused 5 days after :'( :'( :'(
Does anyone have any suggestions to what we should try or do??
Thank you

Once you submitted the application. It is out of your hand. You can't speed it up. Only make the process as smooth as possible by making sure you submitted a complete application with no red flags. Having red flags will only delay your application process longer.

I agree with Screech.

We are in same situation, so not sure if my husband will be here in time, we now decided that if he doesnt have visa by May, I will go on EI 2 months earlier and travel to to have the baby there with my husband and stay with my in-laws after for a few months. Immigration is unpredictable so we make the best with what we can.

I thought of going back home for the delivery, but i would have no help there, both my husband and i would be unemployed and having a baby isnt that cheap
Im on EI or sick leave now, that being said, i am not allowed to leave the country if i want to collect EI. So im really lost in all this. Ive just read here, a guy applied for spouse visa through Vienna in march '13 and got his visa recently. So much for them going in order. :'(

If you are on maternity EI (which you can take earlier than due date with doctors note) you can be out of the country and collect it as those are special benefits and not regular EI benefits. At least it is good news they are working on applications and maybe you will hear something soon. Has your husband been called for an interview? Or absolutely no word from vienna since Jan 2013??? If you heard nothing I would suggest ordering the notes to see what is going on. It takes approx. 30 days to get the notes. I havent ordered mine yet, thinking of ordering in March to have some info in April.

I am on sick leave with doctors note, and i have to do reports every week, until i go on my mat leave. Then i dont have to do reports and can leave the country. We heard nothing since they told us his application is in vienna, i wrote an email to enqier about the application, they just wrote to wait until end of processing time as it says on their website.
What do you mean "ordering notes" and where would i go to ask for such?

Hi there,

if you want to order for your own application, here is the link under privacy act.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-personal.asp

However, if you want to order on behalf of someone's, I believe you need to order it under information act.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-personal.asp

You need to order on behalf of your husband as he is the applicant (2nd link). There will be a $5 fee. go to the 2nd link and fill out the form, ask you husband to sign and PDF a copy of the form to you by email, when you apply you attached the PDF form and in 30 days you should receive the notes.

I have not ordered my notes yet. But I saw some posts in this forum to make sure you choose electronic version to be sent by email. I dont have too many details yet on how to do it, but if you ask in forum seniors will help you order the right ones.

I think it is the best now to order notes to see what notes the visa office made on your file, also it will show you where exactly processing is at. :) I hope all will be ok and take good care for yourself and the baby. God bless you.
