Hey!

I am a peruvian Doctor of veterinary medicine and I'm looking to migrate to canada as either a vet tech or as a vet assistant. But I am curious how can I make it work?
As long as I know the process is to get a job offer first and then apply to the work visa, but I think it's really weird for an employer to wait for 6 months to a year for it to be approved.

As for now, I have my IELTS exam scheduled for next week just in case.
If anyone can help me with any information I would appreciate it.

Thanks in Advance.

It will be very difficult to get a WP approved as a vet tech or vet assistant if you are a veterinarian. You are clearly not coming for the job opportunity given that you would be applying for a lower skilled job that doesn’t use your education and work history.

My work history until now has been working as a tech. As long as I have heard in reddit, many dmvs have actually migrated there working as tech while doing their convalidation of their degree.

Most get PR and then work as a tech until they get licensed as a vet. If you are a vet why are you working as a vet tech?

Peru works a bit different. When you graduate, you must do a thesis to get a degree and then pay to be licensed.

I got stuck on graduation due to having debts and began working as tech. I finished my thesis and defended it 3 weeks ago, got approved. So my plan was to go to canada, get to be a tech while I study for the convalidation exam and then I want to work as a vet.

You need more than a job offer, you need your employer to file a LMIA and pay $1k. The employer has to prove that they couldn’t hire any Canadian or PR. Vet techs require a diploma and most colleges in Canada have the program. Not sure if employers can prove they can’t hire anyone. You can try. If your employer gets a LMIA, then you apply for a closed work permit. The process for the LMIA and work permit can take a long time (sometimes over a year) so few employers go through the process.
