How to manage the jacket when taking the flight?

Hi,

This may seem like a lame question. But as a person who has been living in a Tropical climate (southern part of India), I never had to deal with jackets. Now that I just got the PR confirmed (passport request), I am contemplating how I should deal with jacket during flight.

My jacket weights around 1.5 Kg. If I pack it along with the luggage, I'm afraid I wont be able to wear it when I land in Toronto (during mid of Jan) since the luggage will be checked in to the cargo area. If I put the jacket in the handbag, then nothing else will go in there I'm afraid because of the size. I cant really wear it when starting from India (Bengaluru/Kochi) since it would be too hot. Should I just hold it in my hand right from start ? Would this be an issue when undergoing the security clearance at the airport ?

There is a very good chance that I'd be changing flights at Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt or Heathrow. If this is the case, would I be able to access my luggage and take out the jacket from it? Before I take the flight to Toronto, I can hold it in my hand if I can access the luggage in between.

Any other suggestions ?

Wear your jacket when boarding the flight and remove it once boarded, you can do the same during transit.
