Hy husband and I are both technology consultants with an LLC based in Massachusetts; we have clients and income and work remotely, for the most part. We want to move to Montreal and buy a home: our plan is to retire and live there to the bitter end. I'm not clear about the specific immigration program I should be looking at. We fully expect to pay taxes in Canada, so this isn't about avoiding an obligation. We're not visitors and we won't work for someone else, so......

I am about to engage an immigration attorney, but any help you can offer while I research is appreciated.

I assume you are American? You'll certainly need to apply to immigrate if you want to live here and retire here. Once you are PRs, there's certainly nothing stopping you from working remotely.

Canada has a number of immigration programs. You'll need to research them to determine what the criteria is to apply and be selected. I would recommend you start with the Express Entry program which is a points-based program. Right now you must have 440+ points to be selected.

You'll need to calculate your points to determine your chances. Points are based on age, language abilities, work experience, education and other factors.

EDIT: How old are you? Age plays a big factor in how easy or difficult it will be to immigrate through an economic immigration program.
