Hi, just wondering if their is anyone who can provide me with some advice on the process and procedures when immigrating to Canada.

I have nearly qualified as a nurse and me and my partner and little boy are wanting to immigrate but have no idea where to start or what is involved. Would really appreciate some guidance off somebody.

Thanks lorraine

had a quick scan on the website-very useful however as a nurse do you apply for immigration first, or your nursing registration, as i know their are exams to practice as a nurse, It all seems so much to do lost with it all.

you might find this thread for nurses useful

Lorraine, do you have experience? If so how many years? you have a wide range of options.

I have 8 years experience as a health care assistant, and have now commenced a nursing degree. I am at the start of my second year of nurse training so have two years left, therefore have no experience as a qualified nurse as yet.

Do you know if you can immigrate as a newly qualified nurse or do you require experience prior to going?

I know its a couple of years yet but would like to get organised with the procedures.

Kind Regard

Lorraine.

There is no special requirement for nurses under the FSW programme, it is the same for all professions. What u need is one year experience of performing the duties of a nurse as stated under the ministerial instructions.Check if the health care assistant duties match those listed here:
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2006/ProfileQuickSearch.aspx?val=3&val1=3152&val65=*

Or you can apply for work permit, but u need a job offer first. Get organised by thoroughly reading the guide on the CIC website.

You can immigrate at the end of your nursing programme with the experience you aquired as a health care assistant.Just pray nursing will still be in demand by then.

Thankyou everyone for your help.

Does anyone know if you have to apply for immigration first and then register with the College of Nurse of Ontario.I know it seems a daft question but your more likely to be accepted immigration with a job to go to, therefore you need to register with a nursing body.

Registering with a regulatory body is not a pre-reqiusite for FSW application, it is only a recommendation. Best thing to is to apply (if you have the 67 points) and then look into registering with a nursing body...credential assessment might also factor in. I will advice that you read about practicing nurs thing in Canada, specifically Ontario, if that is your destination. Good luck.
