Hi

My history....
Did my bachelors in london 3 years(Computer Engineering ) didnt get a job ....came to back to home country in sri lanka...

I am hoping to come to canada to do my Masters in Computer Science.(1 year course) ....Will I be able to get PR once I finish?? Would I be able to fall into any scheme without the work experience? Are u granted a temp work visa when u finish?.....Given that the fees are extremely high your advice on how to go about this would be greatly helpful.
Is there any other way for me to get PR with no experience?would the student route work?
i know nothing about the canadian system at this stage!!Thx

you should read about it on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/cec/index.asp

In short, no, you cannot get PR with 1 year studies. It has to be at least 2 years of fultime studies + 1 year full time work experience

There are many ways to get PR. You can see most of them at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

After studying in Canada for a year, you qualify to apply for a one year post-grad work permit.

To qualify for CEC, you would have needed to take 2 years of studies and work for a year or work for 2 years so if you could find an employer while you are on your post-grad work permit and get your work permit changed to a regular permit to stay at least another year, you could apply under CEC.

If you qualify for FSW, that is having at least 1 year work experience in a skilled job and at least 67 points on the self-assessment, you could apply for that once you have been in Canada for one year or if you don't have the 1 year skilled work experience, you could get that in Canada on your post-grad work permit and then apply.

You also have a chance to apply under PNP graduate class depending on the province, in some cases it is enough to have studied in that province for one year and have a job offer, in others the rules are different, would need two years and work for a while. Once you are working, you may be able to apply under PNP with employer support and then it doesn't matter with the studies because you are not under graduate class anymore.

Hi Leon

I am confused about one term here, they need 2 years of study, according to CIC website definition of 2 years= atleast 16 months/4 semsters of study in 24 months. Does it mean that if I consecutively study 4 semsters that means graduate in 1.5 years it will not be considered as 2 years?

Or it is like first year I study 8 months and off in summer and then in second year another 8 months and off in summer which makes 16 months in 2 years.

Above 2 options are different because 1st option is: 16 months of study within 16 months and 2nd option is 16 months of study within 24 months. Did the CIC mean the requirement must be second option? This is kinda unfair becasue both are 4 semsters and 16 months, only time span is different.

Thanks in advance for any sharing.

I am not sure how they classify the 2 years of study. Once you are in Canada, you could call CIC and ask. They might require you to stay in Canada for a full 3 years before you can apply, they may count your 4 semesters as 2 years but require you to stay on a post-grad work permit to fill the rest of the 2 years plus one more year before you can apply.
