I applied for my marriage certificate on Monday and had it by Friday. The envelope that it is sent in our officiant wrote "request to expedite" in big letters. Inside the envelope I included a receipt showing I had paid for the marriage certificate and a short and too the point letter I needed it so I could submit my application for permanent residency. I had my certificate in 5 days!!

I hope this helps someone in the future!

Unfortunately that doesn't always work because it depends on other factors like when your officiant actually registers your marriage - but it can definitely help.

I got married on a Saturday, applied on a Monday (without writing expedite on it) and had it by the following week. So agreed that sometimes you can get it much faster. I know others on this forum who did the same thing I did (even wrote expedite) and still waited many many weeks. So there's some luck involved as well...

i too did that and had it in 5 days, however they had my husbands country of birth as DOMINICA as opposed to DOMINICAN REPUBLIC which delayed it by another 6 days... and they made me pay for shipping and everything!! we had to include the check list to prove that we needed it and a letter. they called and confirmed that they would send it to us urgently.

Well I hope more people have the luck that I did! I expected to wait weeks but I got a nice surprise

There is too many dependencies to assume it's always possible to make the Registrar General "hurry".

Eg: Did the officiant send the package to T. Bay immediately? Was it processed immediately?

In our case, the file was lost and needed to be resubmitted after they couldn't find it (10 weeks later).

I keep meaning to pass this information along to my officiant, actually. He was unaware that the process could be expedited at all at the time that we did it. If I can pay it forward and help someone else out, I gladly will.

The interesting thing really is that when comparing the timelines of people who applied at the time we would have been receiving our marriage certificate if we had expedited it, we weren't that far behind them at the end of the day. There was a difference of about three weeks for people in early August and for us, and we actually had our PPR e-mail before some August applicants. So at the end of the day, I'm fairly satisfied with how it all worked out, even though we did have that wait.

it was sent to thunder at immediately and processed the day it was received

I requested it urgently vut it still says its under review and our visa interview is Dec 20. We got married on September 12th! This seems to be way too long to be waiting
