Hi there.

I just want to ask for help. This is the story. My fiance got divorced by her ex wife and filed in Vancouver Canada. My fiance only got the photocopy of the divorce certificate. We are planning to get marry on November, but we need the certified true copy of the divorce certificate. Since the ex wife of my fiance don't want to help us, how can we get the copy ? Please somebody help us. We don't have any idea how can we get the copy. We need it so we can proceed to our wedding.

Hi

If the divorce was filed in BC, then he simply needs to apply to the provincial government for a certificate.

Follow the link for addresses of Provincial Courts in British Columbia where he can apply for the certificate....
I think that it cost 40 dollars, plus he need to ask to get a seal to be sent to abroad, that gives more legitimacy to the paper...
but it really doesn't make a difference, but is good to ask (NO extra cost)

To obtain your divorce certificate, you will need to contact the Supreme Court registry where your divorce was filed. Registry staff at the court location you contact will be able to assist you with your questions. The cost for a divorce certificate is $40 Canadian.

To request the divorce certificate by mail, please include a letter with pertinent information regarding your divorce, your mailing address, telephone number, a cheque or money order payable to the Minister of Finance for $50 in Canadian funds (includes $10 mailing fee) and mail it to the applicable court registry.

If you are unsure of the location where your divorce was filed, your best course of action would be to contact the Central Registry of Divorce Proceedings for Canada, located in Ottawa. They will not be able to provide you with the document, however, they will be able to confirm at which registry your divorce was filed. They can be reached at:

Telephone: 613 957-4519
Facsimile: 613 941-2520
Website: Central Registry of Divorce Proceedings (CRDP)

Why are you confused? It doesn't matter where you are or where you plan to marry.

You stated that the divorce was filed in Vancouver, BC. Therefore, you must apply to the BC provincial government for the divorce certificate, as per the link I posted.

@canuck thank you for the information. I hope we can get it by November. :(
