Hi all,

Seeking to gain a Canadian working visa from Australia, however I don't like my chances with a recent drink driving charge I'm told I can get around this though. Is this something I need to clear from my record with Aus police? Or something I need to persuade Canadian immigrations to overlook?

Thanks on advance

Canada won't overlook the charge. The DUI charges makes you inadmissible to Canada which means you can't qualify for a work permit.

If you have been charged but not yet convicted, you need to do whatever you can to get the charge dropped to a lesser non-DUI charge. Until the DUI is dropped (i.e. while the charges are still pending), you are inadmissible to Canada and cannot come here on a work permit.

If you have already been convicted, then you are inadmissible to Canada for five years from the time you completed your sentence (i.e. pay the fine, complete any probation or license suspension, etc.).
