LinkedIn. Have a kicka**, profile :). Network, network, network :)!

And read the Settlement Issues & Finding Work in Canada fora on this site.

Provinces also provide services to new immigrants to help find employment.

A general observation would be that it's hard to find jobs without being "on the ground". Did I mention that networking is very important here in Canada? ;)

You may get a Canadian number from sonetel.com being in your home country and put it on your resume. The call to that sonetel number will be forwarded to your home country mobile number.

Getting a Canadian job being in your home country is very difficult, though not impossible.

Certain jobs have shortages. you may get a prior offer if you fall into that technical category. Otherwise , there is no issue for the employers to find their candidates in Canada. So rarely they look abroad for recruiting. It is not a hard task to find job , temp/ permanent in Canada. But experience in Canada will get you more ponts for being short-listed . The employers will contact immediately or within 7 days to arrange face- to face interview and the appointment will be completed in 15- 30 days. Hence employers may not wait until the immigrant arrives.

So plan for job search after arrival is a stratgey to be adopted. However, you may do extensive reseach about your preferd positions and create online profiles on sites such as Career builder, Monster, Indeed , Wrkopolis Job bank etc and save time in this activity.

Most of the times - its a cliche that we have to be on ground before applying - and unfortunately it is absolutely true...

If I am a recruiter unless its an absolutely niche profile - I wouldn't even bother to look..

Sonetel - getting number is an option - interesting one - but they are two sides to it - we are inadvertently misleading recruiters or prospective employees as to our presence - but on the brighter side - we are trying to negate the risk factor..So the whole thing varies from person to person.

References will work out I presume....Linkedin is a powerful tool - agreed to that..Anyone planning to work part time till you get the intended job....???
