Hi,

My partner lost his SIN number. How can he file the tax?
He was on an open work permit last year, but now is staying as a visitor, and would like to file his 2016 tax.
He went to Service Canada last week, but the staff told him since his work permit already expired, she couldn't retrieve the SIN number for him.
What can he do??
Thanks!!

Did he file for 2015 tax? If yes, then it should be on his tax return or NOA for 2015. And if he has worked during 2016, then his SIN should be on his T4 or he could get it from his employer.

He only worked from Oct 2015 to Oct 2016, and this is his first time filing tax.
The problem is that he worked as independent contractor all the time, so he didn't get any T4.
